Backflow Testing, Certification & Repair in Hudson County, NJ — All 12 Municipalities

Hudson County Backflows

South Jersey Backflow serves all 12 Hudson County municipalities — New Jersey’s most densely populated county — with certified annual backflow preventer testing, repair, and enclosure installation. Hudson County encompasses Jersey City (“Wall Street West”), Hoboken (Frank Sinatra’s birthplace), the “Havana on the Hudson” corridor of Union City and West New York, the historic Weehawken dueling ground, Harrison’s Red Bull Arena Transit Village, and the extraordinary high-rise waterfront communities of Guttenberg, North Bergen, and Secaucus. The county’s water supply is served by four primary authorities: Jersey City MUA, Veolia Water NJ, the East Orange Water Commission (serving East Newark), and individual municipal systems for Bayonne, Hoboken, Kearny, and Harrison. Call (856) 291-6809 or contact South Jersey Backflow to schedule service anywhere in Hudson County.

Water Authorities Serving Hudson County — Who We File With

Jersey City MUA (JCMUA)

Jersey City’s own Municipal Utilities Authority draws from the Boonton Reservoir system (Rockaway River, Morris County) and the Pequannock watershed, treating water at the Boonton Water Treatment Plant. The JCMUA directly serves Jersey City and supplies water wholesale to Hoboken (city-owned distribution, Veolia maintenance). Annual test reports for JCMUA properties must be submitted to jcmua.com.

Veolia Water New Jersey

Veolia Water NJ (formerly United Water NJ, drawing from the Hackensack River Oradell Reservoir system) serves Guttenberg, North Bergen, Secaucus, Union City, Weehawken, and West New York as wholesale customers. Annual test reports must be submitted to Veolia at 201-767-9300. The North Hudson Sewerage Authority (NHSA) handles wastewater for Hoboken, North Bergen, Guttenberg, Union City, Weehawken, and West New York using Veolia water consumption data.

Hoboken Water Utility

Hoboken City owns its distribution infrastructure (41+ miles of water mains, majority 100+ years old) and operates through the Hoboken Water Utility; Veolia maintains the system; water is supplied by JCMUA. Annual test reports must be submitted to the Hoboken Water Utility. Hoboken has been running an active Water Main Replacement Program since 2018.

East Orange Water Commission (East Newark)

Uniquely, East Newark Borough in Hudson County is served by the East Orange Water Commission — an Essex County authority. This is the only Hudson County municipality served by an out-of-county water authority. South Jersey Backflow files East Newark test reports directly with the East Orange Water Commission.

Bayonne, Kearny, and Harrison Municipal Systems

Bayonne City has its own distribution system (JCMUA supply, Veolia management history). Kearny Town and Harrison Town each operate their own water departments. South Jersey Backflow files directly with each.
