Backflow Testing, Certification & Repair in Hunterdon County, NJ — All 26 Municipalities

Hunterdon County Backflows

South Jersey Backflow serves all 26 Hunterdon County municipalities with certified annual backflow preventer testing, repair, and enclosure installation. Hunterdon County is New Jersey’s most rural county in character — with the Delaware River communities of Lambertville, Frenchtown, Milford, Stockton, and West Amwell; the critical reservoir watersheds of Clinton Township (Spruce Run, 1,290 acres; Round Valley, 2,350 acres, NJ’s deepest lake); the equestrian estates of Tewksbury Township; the historic Red Mill village of Clinton Town; and the Lindbergh trial courthouse of Flemington Borough. The county’s water service is dominated by NJ American Water (Raritan system) for the eastern and more developed municipalities, with private wells throughout the rural townships and individual small borough water systems for the Delaware River communities. Water Authorities Serving Hunterdon County — Who We File With

NJ American Water (Raritan System)

NJ American Water’s Raritan system serves Flemington Borough, Raritan Township, Readington Township, and Tewksbury Township as confirmed franchise or resale customers. Annual test reports must be submitted to NJAW.CrossConnection@amwater.com or 848-232-8309.

Flemington Borough Water Department

Flemington Borough operates its own water department as the primary water authority for Flemington Borough properties. NJ American Water also serves portions of Flemington Borough and the surrounding Raritan Township area.

Lambertville City Water Department

Lambertville City — one of NJ’s most celebrated Delaware River arts and dining destinations — operates its own city water department for Lambertville properties.

Clinton Town Water Utility

Clinton Town (home of the Red Mill, one of New Jersey’s most iconic images) operates its own water utility drawing from the South Branch Raritan River — the same watershed that feeds the Spruce Run and Round Valley reservoirs immediately upstream. Annual test reports are submitted to Clinton Town’s water utility at 35 Main Street.

Individual Borough Water Systems

Bloomsbury, Califon, Frenchtown, Glen Gardner, Hampton, High Bridge, Lebanon Borough, Milford, and Stockton each operate small municipal water systems. South Jersey Backflow files directly with each.

Private Wells — Predominant in Rural Hunterdon

The majority of Hunterdon County’s rural townships — Alexandria, Bethlehem, Delaware, East Amwell, Franklin (Hunterdon), Holland, Kingwood, Lebanon Township, Union (Hunterdon), and West Amwell — are primarily served by private wells not subject to N.J.A.C. 7:14B annual testing requirements. For any public water connections in these townships, South Jersey Backflow files with the applicable authority.

Spruce Run and Round Valley: Critical Reservoir Watersheds

Clinton Township contains two of New Jersey’s most critical water supply reservoirs: Spruce Run Reservoir (1,290 acres) and Round Valley Reservoir (2,350 acres, NJ’s deepest lake at 180 feet). These reservoirs, managed by the NJ Water Supply Authority and supplying water to NJ American Water’s regional system, provide drinking water to millions of New Jerseyans. Properties throughout the Clinton Township watershed have a heightened responsibility for backflow protection. Annual certification in the Clinton Township area is meaningful regional water supply stewardship.
