Water Authorities Serving Passaic County — Who We File With

Passaic Valley Water Commission (PVWC)

The PVWC — founded in 1927, jointly owned by Paterson, Clifton, and Passaic — operates the Alan C. Levine Little Falls Water Treatment Plant, drawing from the Passaic and Pompton Rivers and blending with NJDWSC Wanaque WTP water. The PVWC directly serves Paterson City, Clifton City, Passaic City, and Prospect Park Borough, plus a section of Woodland Park and 22+ wholesale customers throughout Passaic, Bergen, Essex, Hudson, and Morris Counties. The PVWC recently completed a major lead service line replacement program, removing nearly 5,000 lines. Annual test reports for PVWC customers must be submitted to pvwc.com or 973-340-4300.

North Jersey District Water Supply Commission (NJDWSC)

The NJDWSC manages the Wanaque Reservoir (New Jersey’s largest by volume) and Monksville Reservoir system, providing wholesale finished water to the PVWC and dozens of other utilities serving millions of northern New Jersey residents. The Wanaque Reservoir watershed encompasses Ringwood Borough, Wanaque Borough, and portions of West Milford Township — giving these communities a heightened environmental responsibility for protecting this critical water supply infrastructure.

Bloomingdale, Haledon, Hawthorne, Little Falls, North Haledon, Pompton Lakes, Ringwood, Totowa, Wanaque, Wayne Township Water & Sewer Division, West Milford, and Woodland Park (partial) each operate their own water systems. South Jersey Backflow files directly with each.
